When Tina Langley and the Washington Huskies women’s basketball team head to Columbus, Ohio on Sunday, UW will be greeted by one of the best teams in the Big Ten (as well as the country). There’s a strong argument to be made that the Ohio State Buckeyes are the toughest opponent Washington will play all season when they meet up in the Schottenstein Center.

At 19-1 overall and 8-1 in Big Ten play, Ohio State certainly looks like a more complete and more talented team than the Huskies who currently hold a 13-8 overall record and a 4-5 mark against Big Ten teams this season.

The Huskies are heading into this game with a two-game losing streak following their losses to the likes of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Indiana Hoosiers. And they’re about to face a team that is quite a bit better than those two foes.

When Washington does get to face Ohio State, the Huskies will need to find a way to slow three key players if they want to win. Here are three Ohio State Buckeyes that Washington fans need to know about before this game.

Washington Huskies vs. Ohio State Buckeyes: 3 opposing players to watch

  • Cotie McMahon - the leading scorer for the Ohio State Buckeyes and a terrifyingly talented forward, McMahon has been dangerous this season as she’s averaged 16.4 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game. She scores with ease, rebounds with ease, and gets to the free throw line with ease. McMahon could be a really big problem for UW.
  • Jaloni Cambridge - second in points scored for the Ohio State women’s basketball team this season, Cambridge is versatile, dangerous, and also happens to lead the Buckeyes in assists. She’s also a dynamic defender, as seen with her 33 steals so far this season.
  • Chance Gray - by far the most dangerous shooter from deep that Ohio State has on its roster, Gray has proven time and time again that she is dangerous from behind the three point line. She’s taken far more shots from deep than anyone else on her team and has managed to hit on 38.5 percent of the 135 three point attempts she’s taken.

The Buckeyes have a balanced offense with plenty of different ways to score. Washington can’t afford to overlook all of the offensive talent that is available for Ohio State in this game. Otherwise, things could get ugly in a hurry on Sunday in Columbus.
