The Ohio State Buckeyes have a remarkably talented roster. There’s a ton of great scorers and contributors on this season’s Ohio State team. So, when the Washington Huskies head to Columbus to meet up with the Buckeyes, they’ll need to be prepared for the Buckeyes finding plenty of ways to put points on the scoreboard.
And Cotie McMahon has emerged as the most dangerous member of the Ohio State Buckeyes women’s basketball team when it comes to scoring. In her junior season, McMahon has cemented herself as the Buckeyes’ best scoring threat.
Right now, McMahon is averaging 16.4 points per game all while making an efficient and effective 42.4 percent of her shots from the field.
Washington Huskies women’s basketball will need to account for Ohio State Buckeyes star Cotie McMahon in Big Ten matchup
While her numbers aren’t quite as good against Big Ten competition, it’s still incredibly impressive. There’s not really that much of a dropoff as she’s averaging 15.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game when taking on a Big Ten opponent.
It really seems like she impacts the game in a number of different ways. I, for one, don’t feel great about Washington’s chances when facing her. She’s a solid defender and rebounder and she’s able to get to the free throw line seemingly whenever she wants. So far this season, McMahon has made it to the charity stripe a total of 91 times.
There’s a good chance she causes problems for the Huskies by getting someone on UW’s roster into foul trouble.
If the Huskies aren’t able to account for McMahon’s aggressive style of play, or the way she’s able to score seemingly at will, this game could get out of hand in a hurry. And that’s the absolute last thing that UW needs in a road game against one of the best teams in the country.
