Tina Langley and the Washington Huskies will get to take a fun little trip this weekend. On Sunday, The Huskies will meet up with some school in the Midwest and they’ll have a chance to get a win that would really define their season.

That is assuming they actually got the win. Because, uh, that school in the Midwest is Ohio State and the Buckeyes happen to have one of the best women’s basketball teams in the country. They’re also dominating life in the Big Ten and making things miserable for a number of other opponents on a regular basis.

So, uh, yeah. Fun trip and stuff.

Washington isn’t exactly being given much of a chance to win this game and there are a lot of things that are working against UW right now. The Huskies are having a hard time slowing down Big Ten offenses and they’re just not scoring enough to win if things get into a bit of a shootout.

With this game coming up, it’s important to note that this is a game that could really change the way this season looks for Langley and her Huskies. And theoretically, there is a chance that UW could win this one. But they’d have to get some pretty big breaks to make that possible. And they’d have to answer a few questions.

Washington Huskies vs. Ohio State Buckeyes: 3 questions for UW ahead of Big Ten matchup against the Buckeyes

  • What will UW do about Ohio State’s offense? - Honestly, I have no clue. While (on paper and in theory) Washington’s defense hasn’t been bad overall, it’s not doing well in Big Ten play. Conference foes are averaging nearly 73 points per game against Washington. That’s not good. Not at all.
  • Will Elle Ladine and Sayvia Sellers be able to score enough? - So, let’s assume that the defense is going to struggle (a fair assumption given Ohio State’s offense), will we see Ladine and Sellers go score for score with the Buckeyes? In Big Ten play, the duo is averaging 36.5 points per game and they’re lights out from behind the three-point line. They’ll be important in this one.
  • But what about Washington’s road struggles? - Unfortunately, when you combine the fact that Washington is 2-3 on the road this year (with some truly dreadful road losses) with the fact that Ohio State is unbeaten at home, it really doesn’t feel like UW has much of a shot to come out on top of this one.

We’ll see how it all plays out. Here’s to hoping that Sellers and Ladine are able to have a phenomenal showing against the Buckeyes. Because that might just be the only way that Washington is able to win on the road against Ohio State.
