The drama of college football is the gift that keeps on giving. Yesterday, Michigan Wolverines coach Sherrone Moore was fired by the university in a shocking move. As it turns out, the firing wasn't football related at all for the second-year coach who just led the Wolverines to a 9-3 season in 2025.
Moore was found to have an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, with "credible evidence" serving as due cause in his termination. The fiasco escalated when it was later reported that Moore was also arrested near Ann Arbor and placed in protective custody due to an alleged assault that came in his reaction to the decision.
The rumors about what happened are running rampant as the public is enthralled with the madness of the situation, but one thing that's for sure is that one of the most heralded programs in the sport now has a head coaching vacancy.
Just about any name you can think of has been brought as a candidate for the job -- including Washington's old friend Kalen DeBoer, now at Alabama. But of course, the Huskies' current coach has seemed to find his name thrown around, as well.
Jedd Fisch has been linked to other programs outside of Washington throughout the season, including UCLA and Florida. For a while, Fisch stayed mum on the rumors when asked about it in press conferences, but finally showed a sign of commitment to UW during a presser following an embarrassing loss to Wisconsin.
After that, Washington played its best football of the season, winning two of its final three games in decisive fashion. With a bowl game upcoming on Saturday and a young roster full of potential, all focus should've been on the momentum the Huskies can build going into 2026 and beyond, but instead, Fisch will once again have to answer to coaching drama.

It's clear why Michigan would be linked to Fisch. He's great at recruiting, building programs, and developing his players -- especially at quarterback, where the Wolverines currently have highly-touted true freshman Bryce Underwood at the reins. Additionally, Fisch was previously an assistant at Michigan under coach Jim Harbaugh from 2015 to 2016, so like with UCLA and Florida, he has ties to the program.
But would Fisch want to go Ann Arbor after the comments he made in November? This time around, it feels more likely that Fisch is secure at Washington due to those comments and the position he's in, but you never know with a whale of a job like Michigan. The other thing to consider is the sheer amount of interest coaches have for the job, meaning Michigan basically has the pick of the litter when choosing its next coach.
Thus, for Fisch to leave, there would have to be a perfect storm of him backpedaling on his commitment to Washington, and Michigan narrowing down on him out of all candidates to be their guy. On paper, that makes the odds seem stacked toward Fisch remaining with the Huskies, but then again, the craziness of the past few days is a reminder that, in college football, anything is possible.
