The Florida Gators have fired head coach Billy Napier after a 3-4 start, sending a shockwave throughout the world of college football. Although the writing was on the wall that this move would happen for awhile now, Florida is one of the most-appealing jobs in the nation for a coach, and thus rumors are flying about who can be in line to next lead the Gators.

Of course, that conversation eventually included Jedd Fisch. The Washington Huskies head coach has been a polarizing figure among fans, with some believers in him, and others dissatisfied. That divide becomes even more pronounced whenever is Fisch is linked to a rumor that he will leave Seattle for another program.

A few weeks ago, Fisch's name was brought up by On3 as a potential candidate for the open UCLA head coaching position. Now, with the news of Napier's firing, Florida and Washington fans alike immediately connected the dots that Fisch could be a realistic replacement. Fisch is an alum of the University of Florida, where he also got his start in college coaching as a graduate assistant under Steve Spurrier in 1999.

Fisch, in his second year with the Huskies, is showing signs of progress in his efforts of reviving a program that was left gutted following a national championship appearance and Kalen DeBoer's departure. Washington is currently 5-2 after going 6-7 in Fisch's first year, and have a dynamic young quarterback in Demond Williams Jr., with other promising young pieces around him.

Still, fans that are sour on Fisch will point to his poor track record in big games, at times questionable playcalling, and a general vibe of a lack of commitment to the program as reasons why they'd prefer a different head coach.

With it still being the middle of the season, there will likely be no explicit indication from Fisch about his connection to the Florida and UCLA jobs, as he will likely continue to give "politician's answers" whenever he is asked about it. However, it won't stop the speculation from being a significant theme in this year's UW season.
