After an embarrassing 13-10 loss to Wisconsin and growing rumors that Washington Huskies coach Jedd Fisch has a wandering eye for other programs with head coaching vacancies like UCLA or Florida, Fisch finally set the record straight.

After previously avoiding to speak about his commitment to UW long term during press conferences, Fisch took Monday's presser as an opportunity to candidly address the elephant in the room.

"Unfortunately what happens is they want to tie coaches to lists and then we have to sit there and defend it..." Fisch said. "...The ridculousness of people that want to claim the because my wife and daughters are living in Arizona -- because I have a 16-year-old who's been to five different schools in the last eight years, to finish her high school -- has anything to do with my decision...

"All that does is affect recruiting. It affects our team, it affects our staff. My hope is that our players, our coaches, our families understand how much we love it at Washington."

Fisch also noted how excited he is about the program's youth and future, noting how many freshmen and sophomores are already making an impact, and how much money, time, and ideas he and the department have poured into new facilities.

Already with a wedge between him and the fan base due to recent on-field performances and the previous lack of clarity about his future, these quotes from Fisch did a lot to control the damage from the Wisconsin loss. Many fans gained respect for Fisch for how he handled his press conference -- citing how they appreciated how he showed a more "human side" of himself.

Others remained skeptical, stating that his comments were long overdue and that he said similar things before leaving Arizona for Washington.

Regardless of where anyone falls on that spectrum, the fact that Fisch finally addressed the rumors at all gives fans, recruits, and current players something concrete to interpret -- which, at this stage, is better than silence.

Fisch has been a great recruiter, and even if his in-game decisions have caused frustration, there’s a valid argument that Washington is better off letting him steady the ship rather than hitting reset yet again.

The team is already very much improved from last season's 6-7 finish, and perhaps it's better to look at the bigger picture of progress instead of the disappointing crush to this season's CFP hopes. With three games plus a bowl ahead, more answers will soon reveal themselves.
