32-point statement: Remember when Washington absolutely beat up No. 19 Boise State?

Before he was leading the Washington Huskies, Chris Petersen got to see just how fun it can be to play in a newly renovated Husky Stadium. In a 32-point beatdown of the Boise State Broncos, Steve Sarkisian welcomed the man who would eventually be his successor as they faced off in Seattle to get the 2013 Washington Husky football season started.

And man, it really worked out for the Huskies. Washington had complete control of this game and managed to dismantle Boise State’s really solid defense. The Broncos just couldn’t do anything to slow the offense that Sark had assembled and Keith Price was orchestrating.

Which, you know, was a ton of fun for Washington Husky fans. It probably wasn’t all that fun for Petersen and the Broncos. It was also a great way to get a bit of revenge for a bowl game loss to Boise State in 2012.

Exploring the most dominant wins in Washington Husky football history since 2000: Remember the 32-point win vs Boise State in 2013?

Let’s go over a bit of this dominant win and what happened all throughout this season for the Huskies:

  • Score: Washington Huskies 38 vs. Boise State Broncos 6
  • Margin of Victory: 32 points
  • Coaches: Steve Sarkisian (who was still at UW at this time) vs. Chris Petersen (who would eventually get hired to lead the Huskies after Sarkisian would eventually leave for USC)
  • Washington's leading passer: Keith Price (23-31, 324 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT, 176.8 rating)
  • Washington's leading rusher: Bishop Sankey (25 carries, 161 yards, 6.4 avg, 2 TDs)
  • Washington's final record: 9-4
  • Washington's bowl destination: Fight Hunger Bowl (defeated BYU 31-16)

Here’s how Keith Price and Bishop Sankey diced up the No. 19 Boise State Broncos

Price and Sankey THRIVED in this game. They completely and truly dominated Boise State’s defense and their offensive effort was pretty efficient as well. Washington converted 33 first downs throughout the game, PRice completed over 74 percent of his passes, and Sankey ran for over six yards per carry.

I, for one, tend to think that was pretty impressive.

Also, Washington’s defense was on point in this contest. I know I keep talking about the other side of things a lot for this contest, but Boise State wasn’t able to get a single touchdown in this game.

And again, we’re not talking about some sort of overmatched opponent. We’re talking about a team that was coached by Chris Petersen, who was a pretty dang good coach. This was a pretty dang good win for Sarkisian to get.
