Washington Football post game recap: Washington 48 Fresno State 16
By Bret Stuter
The Washington Football team remains focused as the team overcomes a potentially dangerous Fresno State: 48-16. Now, Washington must pack to face the Colorado Buffaloes in a rematch of last year’s Pac-12 Championship Game.
Week three is over. The Washington Football team now faces the Pac-12 Championship rematch with the Colorado Buffaloes in week four. While that is indeed a difficult test ahead, the Huskies had to defeat the Fresno State Bulldogs.
Mission Accomplished.
The game today was certainly an expected victory for the Washington Huskies. But Fresno State had just faced the nation’s best in Alabama, and fought hard in a 41-10 loss. Still, the game had all the makings of a trap game for the Washington Huskies. The game was projected lopsided victory. The Washington Football team risked looking ahead to next week’s Pac-12 road game opener, and the team has been winning big, but not looked especially big in either victory.
Players looked big in win today
Washington quarterback Jake Browning and wide receiver Dante Pettis did look big today. In fact, both players entered the game today with an opportunity to make their marks in respective record books. So how did each player do?
Browning looked to be in mid-season form, and not a moment too soon. The Washington Football team now enters the Pac-12 portion of the schedule, where wins and losses affect both national and Pac-12 rankings. His record setting TD pass happened early, in the first quarter, as he found Pettis for a four-yard TD strike.

Pettis punt-return TDs pleases Pac-12 pundits
The week after setting the Pac-12 record for punt returns for touchdowns at seven, Dante Pettis ran a punt return over 70 yards for his third punt return for a touchdown this season. That’s his third punt return touchdown in three consecutive games this season.
And that makes eight for the young man, good enough to tie the NCAA record. While that is enough for any young man, that only scratches the surface of Pettis’ accomplishments today. On one hand, Dante caught five passes for 92 yards and three touchdowns. On the other hand, he ran a punt back 77 yards for a touchdown. As a matter of fact, he even passed for 36 yards today.
Today’s victory sets the stage for a barnburner next week.
Pac-12 Championship Game rematch is on
Both Colorado and Washington have remained unbeaten as both teams now turn their attentions towards one another. But the Washington Huskies perch among the nation’s top-10 nationally ranked teams, and the Colorado Buffalo are not.
This will be the first HUGE test of Coach Petersen and the Washington football team. Their Pac-12 debut is on the road, facing a formidable opponent, facing a team with revenge on their mind, and entering the team as a nationally ranked team.
Next: Where does Jake Browning rank against Pac-12 quarterbacks?
Three games are in the record books On this day, two more entries are made in the record books as well. The Washington Huskies must now face the Colorado Buffalo.
And we have plenty to talk about this week in preparation for that game.
