Washington Football’s wide receiver Dante Pettis returned his seventh punt for a touchdown, setting the Pac-12 record

In a year with Washington athletes setting record after record, the books continue to be rewritten. Take today as a perfect example, Washington Football‘s Dante Pettis scored his seventh punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter. As a matter of fact, that’s his second so far this season.

Pettis is a primary target in the deep passing game, but has not found a deep bomb his way yet.  Still, he finds a way onto the scoreboard.

Second verse, same as the first

This is Pettis’ second touchdown in two weeks. This one is nearly as important as the lead changer from a week ago.

As last week, this score has ignited the Washington Huskies.

This score seems to have impacted both teams. Montana has since opened their offense wide open. Meanwhile, the score seems to have realigned the Washington offense, which has looked far more effective since.  With the score sitting at 28-7 nearing the end of the first half, this looks like it could fall directly onto the preseason prediction 48-17.

Record of DeSean Jackson broken

California receiver-turned-pro DeSean Jackson held the previous record at six.  In fact, it was that return man proficiency which placed Jackson as the recipient of the inaugural Randy Moss Return Man Award for the nation’s top kick/punt return man in Division I college football.  Jackson was a three year player for the California Golden Bears from 2005-2007.

The NCAA record for punt returns for TDs is eight, and is held jointly by Wes Welker of Texas Tech and Antonio Perkins of Okalahoma. The set the current record in 2003 and 2004 respectively.
