We’re in the midst of basketball season and it seems like Danny Sprinkle’s Washington Huskies aren’t having too much fun in the Big Ten right now. And unfortunately, while Tina Langley’s Washington Huskies have shown some life and interesting potential to challenge folks in the Big Ten on occasion, they’re struggling as well.

But, thankfully, while basketball season isn’t all that enjoyable right now, there are some good things happening right now (and some fun on the horizon).

Recent headlines from The Husky Haul

It’s just about the start of the upcoming college baseball and college softball seasons. I’m a huge fan of both sports. We’ll be covering them extensively this season here at The Husky Haul, so it’s time to start prepping for both.

I’m going to be writing a fair bit more about baseball and softball here leading up to the start of the season. We’re going over just about anything and everything that UW fans need to know as things get started sooner rather than later.

Reliving Kelsey Plum’s Washington Huskies jersey retirement

Kelsey Plum is among the greatest in all of Washington Huskies athletics history. It was fitting that the Huskies retired her number. And thankfully, we can relive that retirement ceremony because the UW athletics department documented the whole deal.

Jedd Fisch, Washington Huskies football team adds new assistant to UW coaching staff

Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies have picked up another assistant heading into the upcoming 2025 season as Martell Irby is moving to Montlake to become the Huskies’ brand new team culture  and secondary assistant coach.

Irby was previously with Fisch and much of his coaching staff in Arizona as he played for the Wildcats during the 2023 season. So, this is a pretty cool reunion and the head coach of the Huskies sure seems stoked.

Two Washington Huskies headed to the Super Bowl

Trent McDuffie and Keith Taylor, both with the Kansas City Chiefs, are headed to the Super Bowl (thanks in large part due to the fact that the Kansas City Chiefs happen to be really good at this whole football thing). The former Huskies will get a shot at winning it all when the Chiefs meet up with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Today’s tunes:

When I do these sort of news and notes newsletter type of posts, I generally like ending things with some music that I’ve been listening to. Because, you know, why not? I haven’t done a post like this in a while, so we’ll kick things off with Comal County Blue by Jason Boland and the Stragglers:

Boland is a super underrated artist who deserves more credit and recognition for his work and I’ll always find opportunities to promote his best songs when I’ve got a moment to do so. Also, his live shows rock. Get to one ASAP.
