Coming into a tense Apple Cup rivalry matchup following a bye week, there were some concerns that the Huskies would look a bit rusty after not playing since September 6 - a game they won 70-10.
Well, those worries went away immediately, as the Huskies have scored in every one of their drives in the first half against Washington State. That now makes it 18 scoring drives in a row, with 12 being touchdowns, dating back to the second half of the Colorado State game in Week 1.
The Huskies haven't simply been scoring touchdowns, they've been an absolute blur on offense. Each scoring drive has featured plays of 20-plus yards. Washington's first touchdown came on a Demond Williams Jr. 29-yard strike to Denzel Boston, its second on a Williams 23-yard run, and its third came on a 12-yard Jonah Coleman run following a beautiful 45-yard passing gain after Williams evaded tacklers in the backfield.
Their fourth and final drive of the half resulted in a 51-yard field goal, but also featured a 26-yard Williams run.
Overall, Washington's average time of possession per drive is a quick 3:21. Williams has thrown for 152 yards and a touchdowns through the air, while rushing for 65 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Coleman has 27 rushing yards, 52 receiving yards, and added his FBS-leading eighth rushing touchdown of the season.
Meanwhile, Washington State has been dinking and dunking its way down the field on offense. The Cougars' average possession lasted over five minutes when removing their kneel at the end of the half, and they've put up 10 points on 142 yards of offense. The Huskies defense helped them out with some undisciplined penalties to set up both Cougars' scores.
The game's only turnover resulted from a Zevi Eckhaus tipped pass as he was getting blasted by Zach Durfee, which landed in the hands of UW safety Alex McLaughlin for his first interception in a Huskies uniform.
The Cougars will receive the ball to start the second half, so the defense definitely has to take a step up, but aside from that, it's looking like another promising performance for the 2-0 Huskies.
