Denzel Boston was receiving a fair amount of criticism online for his NFL Combine. Though partly because he didn't really participate. He only did two events today: Vertical jump and the 20-yard shuttle. Neither score was earth-shattering, but both were solid, and that's important as the game film, interviews, and Washington's Pro Day is where Boston wants to hang his hat this week.
He crushed the media interviews, and many writers walked away impressed. He also showed that his vertical is good. Sure, it's not chart-topping, but it's just fine for his height and body weight. His shuttle time was actually the third fastest among wide receivers. While some were saying his draft stock is down, one media scout said they have a perfect comparison for him: Michael Thomas.
So people are trashing Denzel Boston?? I'm not finished scouting yet but I have his comp at Michael Thomas right now. Just gonna leave that there

Who knows exactly what Boston's NFL goals are, but to be compared to a top-25 wide receiver of the last decade is something special. Whenever Michael Thomas has been healthy enough to play all 16 games in a season, he's topped 100 receptions and 1,200 yards for the New Orleans Saints. That's big.
Thomas had a record-breaking season in 2019 when he caught 149 passes. That's the most in a single season ever. If that's the comp for Boston, he should probably be flattered.
The above media scout didn't elaborate on his comp, but you can make some inferences. Thomas is 6'3 and 212 pounds. Boston is 6'4 and 209 pounds. They have a similar style to their game, a huge catch radius, with clean routes, and the ability to stretch the field. They aren't scared to use their body to get a 50/50 ball.
Boston isn't worried about the knocks from fans; he came to the combine with a goal to meet teams, interview well, do the drills he was ready for, and leave the rest for Washington's Pro Day. He's walking away having succeeded, no matter if some fans think he underperformed.
Washington's Pro Day is scheduled for March 16, which gives him a couple more weeks to prepare for the drills he saved. He's not the only one who is skipping some of the combine to test back in Montlake. Jonah Coleman also chose not to do certain drills today.
