Washington needs a bunch of players from the portal, and there's plenty of news out there about who Danny Sprinkle is targeting. The big local star news may be Jaylen Petty, but another in-state product from Bothell is also receiving a Washington target. Tyler Mrus, who played for Seattle Prep, is garnering attention from the Huskies as well as a few other programs.

Mrus spent his first two seasons in Idaho and followed that up with one season at BYU. However, playing only a rotational role, he's now back in the portal seeking a bigger opportunity.

Tyler Mrus from BYU is a intriguing player that could fit well for the Washington Huskies

Mrus is an intriguing player both at Idaho and BYU. He plays more of the wing but can slide into the power forward position. At 6'7, he's got length and athleticism and may be more known for his ability on the defensive end rather than a bucket-getter. He only averaged 2.0 points per game last season (with 9.7 at Idaho the season before).

The hope for BYU was that he could come in and be a "D and 3" wing. He shot 38% from behind the arc in his second season at Idaho. However, he couldn't quite find the touch again at BYU, with only a 29.8% making only 14 threes. His playing time just wasn't enough to really get him going or help him find his rhythm.

It's hard to know exactly how he would fit for the Huskies, but defense and shooting are two things Washington needed a ton of last season. It was a lacking component from the game plan (for the most part).

The roster is pretty open for this type of player. Even last year, he would have been a welcome addition to the team, as he brings a skillset that was much needed.

It's hard to know if Mrus will land back at home, but it's intriguing to see him as an option. He's not the flashy option, and the Huskies need some of those, but a nice glue guy, keeping the defense in check with the ability to knock a three, that'll play.
