Just a few days after Washington’s Dec. 13 victory over Boise State in the Bucked Up LA Bowl, a number of notable Huskies announced their plans to enter the transfer portal. The portal has now been open since Jan. 2, and four departing Huskies have already committed to new schools.

Raiden Vines-Bright to Arizona State

The first former Husky to land elsewhere was receiver Raiden Vines-Bright, a former three-star prospect who tallied 24 receptions for 238 yards and a touchdown across 12 games as a true freshman in 2025. On Sunday morning, Vines-Bright announced that he was transferring to Arizona State.

Vines-Bright was ranked by 247Sports as a three-star transfer with a grade of 89. He was ranked the nation’s 33rd-best available wideout and the 125th-best overall talent. He’ll now join a Sun Devils squad that is reloading offensively following the departures of transferring two-year starting quarterback Sam Leavitt and NFL-bound receiver Jordyn Tyson.

The Big 12’s Sun Devils have lost three other receivers to the transfer portal, which could give Vines-Bright room to climb the depth chart. However, the Tempe native will now be competing for reps with four-star transfer Omarion Miller, a rising senior from Colorado who earned a grade of 95 from 247Sports. Miller, who took 45 catches for 808 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2025, is ranked the nation’s No. 2 transfer receiver and No. 12 overall transfer.

Bryce Butler to Texas Tech

In the two days since Vines-Bright’s departure, three more Huskies have exited the portal. On Monday morning, defensive tackle Bryce Butler announced that he’d committed to Texas Tech.

Butler was a former JUCO player who transferred to the Huskies in 2024. After redshirting his first year on Montlake, Butler totalled 19 tackles, two sacks, and a fumble recovery in 2025. However, he only started one game for a defensive interior which was composed mostly of seniors.

Upon entering the portal, Butler earned a three-star transfer rating of 86 from 247Sports, who ranked him the nation’s No. 24 defensive lineman and No. 399 overall portal prospect. He’s now headed to Lubbock, where Texas Tech has built a reputation as a dominant player in the transfer portal.

The Red Raiders’ defensive front was truly dominant in 2025, but most of their dominant pieces are now headed to the NFL. On the interior alone, Lee Hunter is certainly Sunday-bound, seniors Skyler Gill-Howard and E’Maurion Banks are out of eligibility, and junior AJ Holmes Jr. could declare for the draft. The Red Raiders also lost defensive lineman Eddy Smith to the transfer portal.

These changes mean Butler will have a chance to carve out a major role during his final season of eligibility. His only portal competition to this point is three-star interior defender Julien Laventure from Akron, who 247Sports ranks the nation’s No. 99 available defensive lineman and No. 1365 overall transfer.

Deven Bryant to USC

Monday also saw former three-star linebacker Deven Bryant complete his move from Washington to USC. Bryant started 10 games for the Huskies in 2025, finishing with 62 total tackles and two passes defended. He’ll enter USC as a redshirt junior with a three-star 247Sports transfer grade of 87, ranked the No. 17 linebacker and No. 234 overall transfer.

USC lost two linebackers to the portal, and Bryant is their lone positional replacement so far. The Trojans will be looking to replace senior Eric Gentry, who won this year’s Dick Butkus Award, and turn around a defense which has continued to struggle under head coach Lincoln Riley.

The losses of Vines-Bright, Butler, and Bryant were each significant. However, none were Washington’s biggest loss of this year’s transfer portal cycle.

Adam Mohammed to California

Running back Adam Mohammed was the presumed replacement for Jonah Coleman until Dec. 17, when he stunned fans by announcing his intent to enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining. Fans hoped he was just testing the market, but news broke on Tuesday afternoon that he had committed to the California Golden Bears.

Mohammed, a bruising runner who tallied 106 carries for 523 yards and five touchdowns in 2025, was the only Husky in the transfer portal to receive a four-star transfer grade from 247Sports. His grade of 91 made him the nation’s No. 4 transfer running back and No. 82 overall transfer.

Mohammed will likely slide directly into a starting role in 2025. Kendrick Raphael, who this year took 232 carries for 943 yards and 13 touchdowns as the Golden Bears’ starting back, had already entered the transfer portal. Mohammed, alongside talented sophomore quarterback Jaron Keawe-Sagapolutele, could provide a potent one-two punch for a Cal offense that’s being redrawn following the December hiring of head coach Tosh Lupoi and offensive coordinator Jordan Somerville.
