3 top transfer portal targets the Huskies already missed out on in 2026

The Washington Huskies have addressed needs in the portal but as far as dynamic players or potential stars, not much has happened. Jayden Limar the running back from Oregon may be the closest to that label but even Limar is going to be rotational snaps. A couple of the defensive linemen that came in could be starters, too, but it's hard to see a lot of big-time playmakers.

Jedd Fisch may have used all his money in the recruiting cycle, so he's been mostly looking at depth pieces and players to compete for spots. He's missed on a few of his targets in this cycle, here's three examples:

WR - Naeshaun Montgomery - Florida

Montgomery is a former 4-star recruit who never really took off in Florida but has high potential. Fisch saw Montgomery as another option in the mix to be WR1. With Denzel Boston off to the NFL draft, there's no clear WR1 but tons of young talent. Montgomery ultimately chose to go to Missouri instead.

WR - Quincy Porter Jr. - Ohio State

Once again, a flyer idea with an extremely high ceiling player. Porter is a former 5-star recruit and could have clearly come into UW to be the WR1. However, I don't think either that it was guaranteed to him, or that the money wasn't right. He ended up at Notre Dame instead.

DL - Donta Simpson - Miami

Simpson is another example of the portal strategy of Fisch. A backup defensive tackle for Miami, but with some high ceiling potential. That Simpson has something to prove and could come into Washington and fight for a starting spot. Once again, and remarkably so, Simpson also chose Missouri.

Fisch certainly hasn't wowed in the transfer portal, but he has plugged in clear needs. There are still a few names out there and some time to finish strong, but it's pretty clear that Fisch went all-in for recruiting over portaling.
