Although the Washington Basketball team trails Saint Mary’s at halftime. Coach Hopkins A Day is a W day.UW got a commitment from recruit Bryan Penn-Johnson
The Washington Basketball team needs to add size to their roster. And coincidentally, Bryan Penn Johnson has the size, skillset, and attitude which fits on virtually any NCAA basketball team. AAnd so, many NCAA Basketball programs hoped to add him to their 2018 recruiting class. It’s for good reason. On one hand, he has size, athleticism, and possessed an attitude to get better at his craft. But on the other hand, he has a universal fit. In fact, he can play at the post, at the mid-range. He can bang the boards, but can be the shot-maker. He was one of the first recruits Coach Mike Hopkins offered Coach Hopkins remained in contact, despite a multitasking list which allowed little time for sleep.
Investing time and energy in recruiting a player with Bryan Penn Johnson’s skillset is wise and warranted. Penn-Johnson is one of those special players whose upside is only limited by the coaching he receives. He delivers in so many ways. And Coach Hopkins is proving himself to be that type of coach who can make a significant difference in a young man’s life. But only if a young basketball player gives him that opportunity.
Happy anniversary Coach Hopkins
Bryan Penn-Johnson will give him that opportunity. Happy Anniversary Coach Hopkins!
This is a huge coup for the Washington basketball program and for Coach Hopkins. Since the season began, the prize at the end of the journey always felt as though Bryan Penn-Johnson would be at the end of the perilous journey. As the Huskies began to accumulate wins, the team drew more confident. And each win helped to refine what the team could do, and couldn’t do.
More size? Here comes a big boost
Is there a need to talk about what Bryan Penn-Johnson brings to the Washington Basketball team? His arrival doubles the number of bigs available to Coach Hopkins. And we already know how effective Washington is with the play of Noah Dickerson and Sam Timmins. And we know that the team has 6-foot-11.5 center Nate Roberts coming to the team.
The arrival of Penn-Johnson delivers a spectrum of options for Coach Hopkins in the paint. And for as good as the Washington Huskies delivered this season. the team next season will be that much better.
The Huskies add two bigs, a Gatorade Player of the Year wing, and a point guard to the roster for next year. They’ll be ready.
