Washington Football freshman running back Salvon Ahmed quietly gains confidence of head coach Petersen. But after teammate Myles Gaskin‘s breakout game, you can bet he is itching for one as well.

Washington Football freshman running back Salvon Ahmed has been patiently observing as he awaits his opportunity.  He oozes  talent  even as a freshman.  So it’s no surprise that he plans to be the future featured running back of the Washington Football team. As such, he’s been witness to the standout play of reserve tight end Will Dissly. He’s watched as teammate Myles Gaskin chewed up 202 yards and two touchdowns against the Colorado Buffalo.

And he watched in horror as teammate Chico McClatcher broke his ankle.

Now, that same freshman running back is itching for his chance to help his team.

Already making an impact

He has been seeing some action. In fact, he’s been part of the action in each game so far. The result? His numbers so far are solid:  26 rushes for 109 yards and two touchdowns.  He’s also seen some action in the passing game, as he has pulled in three passes for 10 yards.

But that could all change.

The team has lost a huge weapon when wide receiver Chico McClatcher went down. But Salvon Ahmed is a huge weapon also. And he can rush, receiver, and return.

And that is not something that slips past head coach Chris Petersen.

Go out for a pass, Salvon

So it may be that Salvon Ahmed is given his opportunity to shine.  But perhaps not as a running back. You see, Coach Petersen doesn’t waste much time.

Now, this is not necessarily a permanent switch. Plenty of running back in the pros have significant roles in the passing game. And with Chico McClatcher out, it makes sense to rev up a number of alternatives for the next game.

But this could be the week for something quite special out of the freshman ball carrier. And with quarterback Jake Browning tossing the ball, it could be very special indeed.
