Washington Football is a proud program built from the dreams of young men who someday become fathers. This story is for them, and all Dads

Washington Football may not be the first thing you think of on Father’s Day, but it shouldn’t be your last.  You see, the Washington Huskies have always been about family.  And football family means father.

2018 Football prospect Justin Dedich brought his father Bill on his second visit to the program’s facilities, meet with coaching staff, and get a feel of the campus, the culture, and the climate. In the end, it’s the type of experience that is well shared with a father.

The Huskies Family

After all, the Washington Huskies are about family.  In some cases, that means the legacy of a son playing for his father’s team. Such is the case for 2017 freshman offensive tackle Jaxson Kirkland. His father, Dean Kirkland, is a former Washington Husky who was drafted by the Buffalo Bills.

In other cases, the Husky family becomes more than just a title, but a support network for young athletes to achieve so much.  It is a testimony to the spirit of manhood, of the focus of an athlete, not to be dissuaded by obstacles, difficulties, or challenges.  In the end, the Washington Huskies are pack animals, but a Washington Husky can just as easily be the lead dog.

Father’s Day

In the end, Father’s Day is more than being a Dad. It’s about the legacy of being the best you can be and sharing that with the next generation. It includes fathers, coaches, teachers, uncles and even mothers whose strength and support changes the lives of young men and women.

Fatherhood is setting high standards in your life for yourself and those you love, then elevating those loved ones to achieve those high standards. That is the way the Washington Football team rolls.  The team set high standards, and then, the coaches elevate the players skills through discipline, positive feedback, and perseverance.

Fathers everywhere who raised, cheered, or shared the Washington Football experience know the special love it takes to raise children, athletes, and tomorrow’s leaders.  It requires a special type of love.  And on this day, that type of love has a name and a day. It’s fatherhood. Happy Father’s Day to all fathers on behalf of the Husky Haul.
