While the Washington Huskies were fresh off a strong rivalry win against an in-state team when they met up with the Seattle Redhawks, they certainly looked outmatched against a team from their own city. Just a few days after handing the Washington State Cougars a 26-point beating, the Washington Huskies men’s basketball team got upset at home by the Seattle Redhawks.

And that’s not fun! It’s certainly not great for Danny Sprinkle and the UW men’s basketball program as it continues to build in his first season on Montlake.

All of that said, it’s plausible that Washington is going to be prone to losing games like this. Especially in a bizarre fashion given that this is the first year of a rebuild and the Huskies are having to rely heavily on some young players with plenty of potential who may not be fully reaching that through the entirety of a game.

Because, like most of his teammates, Zoom Diallo had a pretty quiet start to this game against Seattle. But, it’s worth noting that Diallo was a huge reason as to why the Huskies were able to get back into striking distance against the Redhawks.

Washington Huskies men’s basketball: Zoom Diallo showcased strong potential in second half vs. Seattle Redhawks

Diallo didn’t do much in the first half as he got into a little bit of foul trouble and only scored a couple of points off the bench. But, once Washington got to the second half against the Redhawks, Diallo managed to become the Huskies’ second-leading scorer during the final 20 minutes of the game.

To be totally clear, he wasn’t the second-leading scorer in the game, but rather just the second half of the game. Because while Tyler Harris led Washington’s second half surge with 17 points, Diallo wasn’t that far behind with 11 points and four rebounds he put up in under 14 minutes of action in the second half.

Diallo is going to be fun to watch as he continues to develop under Sprinkle. The Huskies have a young star with plenty of potential.
