As the Washington Huskies and Louisville Cardinals get set to face off in El Paso in the 2024 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, we’re going to see the culmination of a couple teams’ seasons as well as an entire month of preparation that both the Huskies and Cardinals have gone through.
We’re about to see how the Huskies and Cardinals stack up against each other. And, among several other things, we’re going to see the fruit of the effort that Washington (and Louisville) put in over the past few weeks.
Because, as Jedd Fisch noted in a press conference, the Huskies were fully intent on taking bowl preparation pretty seriously. That’s exactly what his Arizona Wildcats team did last year as they got set to take on (and eventually beat) Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners.
“We played Oklahoma, we had a huge win for our program, and we did that because we took the game very seriously,” Fisch explained. “It was a championship game, we treated it as such.”
I love that. I’m a huge fan of the emphasis that Fisch puts on bowl games. These things matter.
Washington Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch excited about making it to 2024 Sun Bowl
While some are likely overlooking the Sun Bowl (and number of other bowl games), Fisch and the Huskies are pretty zoned in on this game.
“We treated it like a playoff game or whatever you want to look at these bowl games as, and we are taking that exact same mentality,” Fisch continued.
On top of all the preparation that goes into this, there’s also a lot of joy and celebration present as well. And the head coach of the Washington Huskies is certainly aware of that fact as well. Fisch was sure to note what the Huskies were going to do to celebrate all throughout.
“We're also going to make it an incredible experience for the kids,” Fisch explained. “We're going to celebrate going to a bowl game, we're going to have parties, we're going to do some amazing things for the kids, we're going to include all the families.”
I’m here for it. Go have fun. Live it up. Enjoy the bowl game. Because the Huskies had to fight pretty hard to get to this point. They should be proud of what they’ve accomplished while also working to improve heading into next season.
