The Washington Huskies are taking on a tough opponent in the No. 1 Oregon Ducks and Jedd Fisch’s team very quickly found out just how good the Ducks happen to be. There’s a notable gulf of talent that exists between these two teams. Oregon is a cohesive unit, Washington is working on a rebuild. The two teams are just in different places right now.
But, as these two (former Pac-12 and now current Big Ten) rivals face off in Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon Saturday evening, Washington was able to show a bit of resilience to get back into the game against Oregon. While the Huskies fell behind by 22 points, star running back Jonah Coleman provided a necessary spark to get UW moving in the right direction once more.
Late in the second quarter, Coleman managed to cap off an 11-play, 75 yard drive with a push into the end zone that provided the Huskies with a chance to cut into the deficit before halftime. And now that the second half is set to start, UW will get the ball and have a shot at further chipping away at the score against Oregon.
Watch: Jonah Coleman pushes into the end zone for a Washington Huskies touchdown run vs. Oregon Ducks
The Huskies desperately needed this one.
The touchdown run set up an opportunity for a two-point conversion, which was converted as Demond Williams Jr. was able to connect on a pass with Denzel Boston, setting the score at 28-14 and providing a brief bit of momentum against the Ducks.
Coleman has been a huge bright spot for the Huskies all throughout the season. He’s managed to run for 1,000 yards for UW in his first season in Seattle and he’s going to be a key feature that Fisch and this Washington Huskies coaching staff can continue to build this team around.
Now, the deficit isn’t too large. Can the Huskies find a way to mount a second-half comeback thanks in part to this score from Coleman?
