The 300th meeting between the Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars ended in one of the best ways possible. A dominant 26-point win in a rivalry game always feels good and that’s what happened as the Huskies handed Washington State an 89-73 beating Wednesday evening in Alaska Airlines Arena.

Washington was solid all over and was able to get a number of different contributors involved as all five starters scored in the double digits and Zoom Diallo put up another 12 points off the bench. DJ Davis led the way for UW as he scored 21 points for the Huskies.

Things were close at halftime as the score sat at 35-31 in UW’s favor, but Washington hit a hot streak and was able to make 60 percent of its shots in the second half. That helped create such a gap between UW and WSU in this game.

The Huskies were also impressive in three point shooting as they made 47.6 percent of their shots from deep against the Cougars.

At 8-3, the Huskies are in a decent spot overall, but they need to perform at a higher level in Big Ten play. Thankfully, Washington has a few more home games against non-conference opponents coming up as 2024 comes to an end.

The Huskies will have Seattle U in Alaska Airlines Arena on Monday, December 23 and then will face SJIT on Sunday, December 29. Then on Thursday, January 2, the Maryland Terrapins will be in Seattle as the Huskies get back to Big Ten play. So, there’s a couple of opportunities to get even more momentum ahead of that Maryland game. And that seems notable.
