After talking about a couple of games where Washington won by an average of 49 points, it feels a little weird to talk about a game in which the Huskies handled their opponent with ease but only managed to win by 31 points. But, well, hey, this game was still very one sided and the Washington Huskies won it with ease.

It’s still a dominant win. And it’s one of the most dominant wins the Huskies have since 2000. Interestingly enough, there are quite a few wins in this current era of UW football that are roughly in this sort of margin of victory. So, we’re going to talk about a few that are kinda like this.

But for now, let’s take a look at how the Washington Huskies managed to steamroll past the Wyoming Cowboys and get a 31-point victory back in 2002.

Exploring the most dominant wins in Washington Husky football history since 2000: Beating Wyoming by 31 in 2002 is pretty solid

Here’s a few quick facts about this Washington Husky win over Wyoming:

  • Score: Washington Huskies 38 vs. Wyoming Cowboys 7
  • Margin of Victory: 31 points
  • Coaches: Rick Neuheisel vs. Vic Koenning
  • Washington's leading passer: Cody Pickett (34-45, 404 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 165.6 rating)

  • Washington's final record: 7-6
  • Washington's bowl destination: Sun Bowl (lost to Purdue 24-34)

Let’s ignore that Sun Bowl loss, you know? Let’s focus on the win at hand that we can talk about and enjoy, shall we?

Why was Washington able to absolutely control this game against Wyoming?

The Huskies really did have a handle on this game. Washington outgained the Cowboys by nearly 300 yards in this game. The Huskies gained 549 yards of total offense. Wyoming, meanwhile, had just 255. Oh, and Washington had a grand total of 36 first downs while Wyoming had just 16.

This is a game that Washington absolutely controlled. Start to finish, you know? Now, it is worth noting that UW wasn’t perfect in this game, but the Huskies didn’t have to be. They won and they won with absolute ease. And that’s great to see.

Cody Pickett (great name for a quarterback) managed to throw for over 400 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He didn’t throw a single interception and he completed 34 of 45 passes. That’s not bad.
