In a game that took place before every single member of the current Washington Husky football roster was born, all the way back in the late 1900’s, Corey Dillon made a bit of history against the Oregon Ducks.
It’s oddly specific Washington Husky football history, but in the 1996 matchup against Oregon, the remarkable running back managed to run for a ton of yards in what would be a strong rivalry win over the Ducks.
Let’s hop in the time machine, examine some stats, and look at how Dillon, in a play that wasn’t a scoring play, managed to make his way into the UW football record book. And it’s because this play actually wasn’t a scoring play that he got the chance to make a little Washington Husky history.
Washington Husky football history: Corey Dillon gashed the Oregon Ducks on a 75-yard run that didn’t actually end up in a touchdown
Let’s go ahead and get this out of the way, Washington beat Oregon 33-14 in 1996. A really impressive margin of victory for the Huskies over the Ducks. That’s something worth celebrating. But we’re not celebrating a scoring play.
Remember, we’re going through the niche history that is long runs that didn’t result in a score. That’s what we’re talking about here.
And tied for No. 3 on the list is Dillon’s run against the Ducks on October 19, 1996. It was a 259-yard day for Dillon, which also gets him into the record book, but this specific run (one of 32 carries that Dillon had that day) made a bit of history. It’s safe to say that this run helped increase his yard per carry average in this game.
Dillon only played one season with the Huskies and the 259 yards he ran for against Oregon equal out to a little over 15 percent of his rushing total of the season. And of course, it’s tied for the No. 3 longest run without a touchdown in Husky history.
