Washington's defense adds 3-star Ohio State transfer with exciting upside

The Huskies took another step to rebuild their defensive front on Monday by landing former Ohio State and Idaho State defensive end Logan George from the transfer portal. It’s a promising first edge signing from a Huskies program that has already added three defensive tackles.

George began his career as a preferred walk-on at Utah State in 2022, but didn’t play as a result of a mission trip. Instead, he transferred to the Big Sky Conference’s Idaho State before the 2023 season, where he’d play in 22 games across the next two seasons. He started every game for the Bengals in 2024, finishing with 56 tackles, six sacks, and a conference-best 18.5 tackles for loss.

George then entered the transfer portal, where he received a high three-star grade of 88.42 from Rivals (now part of On3). In Dec. 2024, he committed to the Buckeyes, despite being heavily recruited by Washington and a number of other schools.

Injuries sidelined Logan George after a promising start at Ohio State

George entered the Ohio State program late in their national championship run, and began to make an even bigger name for himself during practices that following spring.

"I think he's quicker than I thought he was," Buckeyes defensive line coach Larry Johnson said during spring camp. "You can watch him on videotape...He's got power. He's got really strong hands to get off blocks and set the edge. So I'm really excited about what we're going to have to do with him."

Head coach Ryan Day made similar remarks after Ohio State’s spring game, in which the 6-foot-4, 260-pound junior made an early impression by repeatedly pressuring the quarterback.

"I think we've got to figure out how we can best utilize Logan this fall," Day said after the spring game. "So that's going to be a topic of conversation. ‘What's the best fit? How does he fit? What's his role?’ Because he has strong hands. He's got physicality to him. And when he first came here during those two weeks during the playoffs, our guys had a hard time blocking him. You could recognize he had heavy hands. And so you've seen some of that this spring.”

However, George was shut down for most of fall camp by an undisclosed injury, and he continued to battle the injury bug for the remainder of Ohio State’s 2025 season. After finishing the season with just 19 snaps and two tackles, George entered the transfer portal.

Logan George could finally break out as a starting DE for Washington

George, who earned another three-star grade (this time an 88.00) from On3 after entering the transfer portal, seems to have found an ideal landing spot in Seattle. The Pocatello, Ida. native could conceivably start full-time in a 2026 Washington defense which needs to replace graduating senior end Zach Durfee.

With Durfee gone, rising senior Jacob Lane is Washington’s only proven producer on the defensive edge. Fellow rising senior Isaiah Ward, who suffered a variety of injuries in 2025, is the only other returning defensive end to tally more than ten tackles last year.

If George can avoid setbacks this offseason, he’ll have a real chance to display the skills Day raved about on a national stage in 2026. A healthy George would go a long way towards revamping a Huskies pass-rush which ranked T-12th in the Big Ten last year with just 24 sacks.
