With the Washington Huskies moving into the Big Ten, securing the services of a game-changing running back in Jonah Coleman was a huge deal. Jedd Fisch and his staff did an incredible job in getting one of the most talented running backs in the country to leave Tucson and the Arizona Wildcats and to move up into the Pacific Northwest.

And while Coleman deserves more carries, he’s been a huge focal point of Washington’s offense all throughout the season. He hasn’t been the most productive running back in the conference, but that’s because other teams are far more one-dimensional. Washington has a relatively well-rounded offense.

But still, the junior transfer from Arizona has provided the always incredibly important ability to take off down the field in a hurry. He’s explosive. He’s fantastic in the open field. He’s also a dang good runner between the tackles. And the Washington Huskies are certainly lucky to have him and the impressive 6.7 rushing yards per carry.

That number puts him among the best in the Big Ten this season.

Washington Huskies running back Jonah Coleman ranks No. 3 in the Big Ten in yards per carry

  • Kaleb Johnson (Iowa Hawkeyes) - 7.8 yards per carry
  • TreVeyon Henderson (Ohio State Buckeyes) - 7.2 yards per carry
  • Jonah Coleman (Washington Huskies) - 6.7 yards per carry
  • Nicholas Singleton (Penn State Nittany Lions) - 6.4 yards per carry
  • Quinshon Judkins (Ohio State Buckeyes) - 6.4 yards per carry
  • Devin Mockobee (Nebraska Cornhuskers) - 6.3 yards per carry
  • Justice Ellison (Indiana Hoosiers) - 6.2 yards per carry
  • Jordan James (Oregon Ducks) - 5.9 yards per carry
  • Reggie Love III (Purdue Boilermakers) - 5.8 yards per carry
  • Woody Marks (USC Trojans) - 5.7 yards per carry

That’s some pretty impressive company for Coleman to be in. He’s surrounded by stellar running backs who are either the sole focal point of their offense (Johnson) or guys who are on talent-loaded teams that are set to compete for the college football playoff this season (Henderson, Singleton, Judkins, Ellison, James).

That’s an impressive list! Coleman has accomplished a lot and the Huskies are incredibly fortunate to have him this season.
