On paper, it will appear that local 4-star quarterback Sione Kaho chose to leave home and play for Stanford as a spurn of Washington. However, it was the Huskies that helped make his decision easier as he narrowed his choices down. Kaho hadn't decided whether he wanted to stay in-state and play for the hometown Huskies, but they were on his list. Jedd Fisch even had Kaho circled as a priority target.
That was until the Huskies landed 4-star quarterback Blake Roskopf from Goodyear, Arizona. That changed the recruiting picture dramatically for the Huskies and Kaho. On both sides of the equation, it allowed the choice for Stanford to be much simpler.

For Kaho, he now gets to go to Stanford and be part of a program that is known for developing top-tier quarterbacks. Though lately, it has been in a bit of a lull on that front. Yet, one of the best quarterbacks to ever put on cleats at Stanford is now the general manager for the football program, Andrew Luck.
While Kevin Cacabelos mentions that Kaho will get to learn from Luck, it may not be in the on-field work as much as the press billing would say. Luck has an office job, and Stanford has other coaches, including quarterback coaches, to help with the field prep. Though Kaho will have a former star quarterback in Luck to talk with and pick his brain.
It's a win-win for both Washington and Kaho. The Huskies get their 4-star quarterback with a built-in connection to 4-star wide receiver Zerek Sidney (they play for the same high school), and Kaho has a door closing on him, making his choice simpler and allowing him to go be part of Stanford.
So, don't believe the stories or the paper when it looks like Kaho spurned Washington to head to Stanford; that choice was made when UW landed a different 4-star quarterback.
Washington is sitting on a top-10 recruiting class (8th according to 24/7 Sports) right now and continues to build momentum with future recruits.
