Washington Husky softball easily handles Illinois in dominant Friday night win

The Washington Huskies didn’t have any sort of issue getting an easy win Friday evening as they managed to absolutely explode offensively against one of the worst teams in the Big Ten. And while it was one of the worst teams in the Big Ten that UW beat up on, the Huskies accomplished exactly what was expected of them (and probably a little more) in the 17-5 victory.

Washington managed to score those 17 runs on an impressive 19 hits. Which, I know this is a lot, but for some reason I kind of expected more hits to score that many runs? I don’t know, it’s all a little ridiculous and all really impressive.

And to be completely honest, the Illinois Fighting Illini really had no shot at competing in this game. Washington scored seven runs in the first inning and then followed that up with another seven runs in the second inning.

There was no way that UW was going to let Illinois try to keep up. It was over after five innings (shoutout to the NCAA and college softball’s mercy rule which expedites these games being over when they’re absolutely out of hand). Just an absolute breeze of a win for the Huskies.

Alexis DeBoer was unstoppable and Ava Carroll was also just phenomenal. The duo managed to combine for 10 RBIs as they went a combined 7-for-10 with two home runs between the two of them. They were incredible.

Oh, and my favorite stat from this remarkable win? The Huskies didn’t get struck out even once. No issues with strikeouts at all in this game. Truly an impressive and remarkable and efficient way to get a win over Illinois.

With the win, Washington now has a six-game win streak, the Huskies are 4-2 against Big Ten teams and have a shot to continue to build momentum moving forward. After all, UW is 7-3 in road games on the season and the Huskies get to play Illinois again on Saturday. And then after this road trip, Washington will return home and get to host Seattle U and the Wisconsin Badgers. More opportunities to win lie ahead.
