We’ve already gone over how Deontae Cooper ended up making his way into the history books for the Washington Huskies once. Now we’re about to discuss how he ended up getting there a second time. Interestingly enough, it’s for literally the exact same record. And, it happened in the exact same game! College football is weird sometimes.
So, again, just a refresher, we’re talking about the longest runs in Washington Husky football history. Or, well, some of the longest runs. Specifically, we’re talking about the longest runs that DIDN’T end up in the end zone.
It’s a little niche, a little odd, but I love these sorts of stats. And back in 2013, a young Deontae Cooper who was bouncing back from knee injuries, found a way to make a bit of Husky history twice against the Oregon State Beavers.
Shoutout to Oregon State.
Washington Husky football history: Remember when Deontae Cooper ran for 70 yards in 2013 against the Oregon State Beavers?
At one point in the game (which ended up being an incredibly lopsided affair in favor of the Huskies), Cooper ran for 68 yards on one play (that didn’t end up in the end zone). And on another drive, Cooper managed to rush for 70 yards on a carry. And again, he didn’t end up scoring on that play.
Twice in the same game. It’s pretty impressive, to be completely honest.
This was a bit of a breakout game for Cooper who unfortunately never really did too much for UW after this. It was arguably his best game for the Huskies given that he later ended up transferring out to finish his career elsewhere.
But still, what a moment for Cooper. Twice in one game he had a ridiculously niche stat that we’re getting to talk about now. He also did run for 166 yards and a couple touchdowns. So, that’s worth noting as well.
