At this point, it really seems like Danny Sprinkle and his Washington Huskies basketball team are aiming to make it through the remainder of the season with some sort of foundation of success to build upon moving forward. Because right now, it seems very unlikely that this team is going to have anything that resembles postseason success in its first, challenging season in the Big Ten.
So, as Washington moves forward (and tries to snap its half-dozen game long losing streak), Sprinkle and the UW men’s basketball team need to take advantage of the opportunities that they have available to them when those opportunities do indeed become available.
In theory, there are some games that they might be able to win down the stretch. So, let’s take a look at the five most winnable games left for the Washington Huskies men’s basketball team. And of course, we’re taking a look at the ESPN Analytics Matchup Predictor tool to help rank things here.
What are the most winnable games left on the 2024-2025 Washington Huskies men’s basketball schedule?
Starting from the “least likely” to the “most likely,” let’s go over the five games UW might be able to enjoy down the stretch of the season.
- Minnesota (31.9 percent win probability) - February 1 - Hey, look, this game is happening really soon! And the Washington Huskies might have something of a chance to get a win on the road in Minneapolis.Washington doesn’t have a great chance, but it’s a chance nonetheless.
- Northwestern (36.9 percent win probability) - February 8 - Taking a look at the Northwestern Wildcats, who visit Alaska Airlines Arena, Washington will be presented with a decent chance to get a win. It’s not a great one, but Northwestern’s success mostly comes at home right now. Maybe UW can take advantage of that when the two teams meet in Seattle?
- Nebraska (41.3 percent win probability) - February 5 - Between the trip to Minnesota and the home game against Northwestern, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Washington Huskies will meet up. Nebraska hasn’t been great this season, which is relatable, and they certainly seem vulnerable.
- Indiana (45.9%percent win probability) - March 1 - Man, the Indiana Hoosiers, a college basketball blue blood, are having a rough time. Maybe this is the price they’re having to pay for the run to the College Football Playoff this past football season? I don’t know, but I like that UW has what is essentially a coin flip’s chance against the Hoosiers.
- Rutgers (53.7 percent win probability) - February 19 - LOOK A GAME THAT WASHINGTON IS (currently) FAVORED IN! ESPN Analytics seems to like Washington’s chances of beating a Rutgers team that isn’t exactly having the most fun ever this season. I’ll take it.
This slate of games, and the chances to get some wins in it, could really make this season seem a bit more exciting should Washington find a way to take some of those opponents down. Interestingly enough, it all seems to start with the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
