While the Louisville Cardinals have seen all sorts of offensive fun this season, the Washington Huskies (thankfully) won’t have to deal with the starting quarterback who led to much of Louisville’s success this season.
Tyler Shough won’t be playing in the bowl game.
The seventh-year senior really thrived with the Cardinals this season as he threw for more than 3,000 yards, tossed 23 touchdown passes, and only threw a half dozen interceptions on the season. On top of that, Shough also completed 62.7 percent of his passes on the season.
The former quarterback for both the Oregon Ducks and the Texas Tech Red Raiders finally found a place where he could start and thrive while playing for Jeff Brohm and the Louisville Cardinals. Shough was solid all throughout the year and was a huge reason as to why the Cardinals won eight games this season.
He was able to spread the ball around effectively, connecting with eight different Cardinals at least 15 times this season. Shough also managed to throw multiple touchdown passes in eight different games this year while throwing for over 300 yards in four different games.
Washington Huskies won’t face Louisville Cardinals quarterback Tyler Shough as he skips the Sun Bowl to prepare for 2025 NFL Draft
And thankfully, UW’s defense won’t be seeing him in the Sun Bowl.
Shough has announced that he will be sitting out of the 2024 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl as he prepares for the upcoming NFL Draft, which makes a little bit of sense. The 25-year-old quarterback is trying to make it to the highest level of football.
There’s an argument to be made that another data point in the form of a game against a fellow Power 4 team would help him get set for the draft as well, but it would come with the increased injury risk. There’s also an off chance that Shough would have a bad performance against UW and that would decrease his draft stock.
