Washington Huskies win their 2nd conference series of 2025 season by beating Maryland

This is a pretty odd season for the Washington Huskies, to be completely honest. Fresh off of a weird week that included getting swept by Gonzaga and then splitting midweek games against Pacific Lutheran, Eddie Smith and the Washington Husky baseball team managed to take their second Big Ten conference series of the season as they took two games from the Maryland Terrapins.

The Huskies, currently below .500 on the season (losing all four of those road games against the Stanford Cardinal really didn’t help matters), happen to be the No. 4 team in the Big Ten when it comes to looking at conference win percentage.

Weird season. Let’s enjoy the chaos, shall we?

I mean, it’s just a little odd, but certainly enjoyable. I’ve mentioned this a little elsewhere, but the move to the Big Ten really provides a solid opportunity for the Huskies to make a name for themselves here. It’s not like the conference is really known for being great at college baseball.

Washington’s pitching really thrived across the series and the Huskies only allowed a grand total of six runs through the three games. Of course, outside of a UW offensive explosion in game one, the Terrapins also had similar success on the mound.

During that remarkable game on Friday, Washington managed to rack up 12 runs off of 13 hits. And a lot of that came thanks to a wonderful and fun 6th inning that included a five-run burst that really allowed the Huskies to run away with a 12-4 win.

In game two, the Huskies unfortunately fell short in a pitcher’s duel. The Huskies had a pretty impressive showing from their pitching staff on Saturday, but Washington managed to get just four hits in the game. And that’s a huge reason why they lost.

On to game three, where we see another pitcher’s duel, but thankfully the Washington Huskies managed to get a combined shutout from Justin Tims and Josh Emanuels, who had eight strikeouts between the two of them.

Again, Washington is now 11-14 overall and 4-2 in Big Ten play. The Huskies have a shot to make this season a fun one if they can keep stealing conference series away like this. So, here’s to hoping that keeps happening.
