Washington Huskies vs. UCLA Bruins: 3 things we learned in bowl-securing home win
By Ethan Lee
Jonah Coleman and Demond Williams Jr. can be devastating focal points for the Washington Huskies’ offense going forward
I guess we don’t fully know what Coleman will do this offseason. We technically don’t even for sure know that Demond Williams Jr. will be back next season either. College football is in a truly bizarre place right now thanks to the transfer portal and NIL and the way this sport keeps experiencing landscape altering changes to its structure.
But if both of these guys are back for next season, there’s a really good chance that we’ll see them do a lot of exciting things in the backfield for the Huskies. Between Williams’ speed at quarterback and Coleman’s impressive versatility at running back, the playbook should be opened up considerably next year with these two back.
And if defenses are having to account for two dynamic runners being on the field at any given time, then they’re not going to be able to just lock down on what Coleman is able to do in a play. That’s especially true if Williams can continue to develop as a passer.
Coleman was great against UCLA and their run defense. The former Arizona Wildcat (under Jedd Fisch) carried the ball 21 times, gained 95 yards, and scored two touchdowns. He was the defining factor of this offense for much of the game.
Put a “continuing to develop but still exciting to watch quarterback” like Williams next to him full time and this offense is going to be fascinating moving forward.
