While he hasn’t been the starting quarterback for the Washington Huskies for very long, a lot of folks are very intrigued in seeing what Demond Williams Jr. brings to the table as the full time starting quarterback on Montlake as UW moves forward.
Will Rogers, who transferred in from Starkville, Mississippi and the Mississippi State Bulldogs, was the starter for much of the season and he got off to a decent start early on. That said, his fit within the offense limited his potential and his production declined a bit as the season wore on.
Now Washington is turning things over to Williams, a true freshman, who has played in various different situations all throughout the season up to this point. Coming into the season, Williams was largely viewed as “the future” of Washington Huskies football. Now he’s set to start against the Louisville Cardinals in the second-oldest bowl game around: the Sun Bowl.

All throughout the season, Williams has done well in demonstrating what poise and development look like for a young quarterback who would occasionally play in various different situations. He got a decent first start on the road in a night game against the Oregon Ducks in which, while facing constant pressure from Oregon’s defense, completed 17 of 20 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown.
So far this year, that accuracy along with his athleticism have made Williams a fascinating topic for Washington fans to discuss. He’s managed to complete 76.7 percent of his passes this year while throwing for 570 yards and four touchdowns.
On the ground, Williams has added 234 yards and another touchdown.
That’s not a ton of production, but it’s enough to provide some intrigue for Washington Husky football fans. It’s also worth considering that Williams was very much the second quarterback on the two deep for most of the year.
But he has a chance to get some more experience as a starter against a Power 4 program and he’s spent the past month getting extra reps preparing for this moment. It’ll be fun to see how it all plays out for him as the 2024 season wraps up.
