Washington Huskies sit at No. 41 in latest ESPN FPI college football rankings
By Ethan Lee
Following a frustrating road loss against the Indiana Hoosiers, the Washington Huskies are still holding on to a relatively respectable position in ESPN’s latest FPI college football rankings.
That said, there’s little consolation in Washington holding on to the No. 41 spot in the FPI rankings when the Huskies sit at 4-4 on the season and look like they might struggle to make it to a bowl game this season.
Washington Husky fans definitely don’t want to talk about how they’re sitting just below the UNLV Rebels (No. 40) and just above the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (No. 42). Heck, UW is a couple spots beneath the Michigan Wolverines (at No. 39), a team that Washington managed to beat in decent fashion just a few weeks ago.
This isn’t where the Washington Huskies wanted to be this season. Jedd Fisch and the Huskies have suffered a few frustrating losses and that’s what has put them here. Such as their close, early season loss to the No. 52 Washington State Cougars.
Or maybe we should reminisce about the road loss to the No. 64 Rutgers Scarlet Knights? I don’t know. This whole deal stinks. It sure would be nice if Washington had a better record than just 4-4. Because then we could find something more to celebrate.
Instead, we’re chatting about how the Huskies are surrounded by teams that are struggling, much like they are, this season.

But what about the two other teams that Washington has lost to? How do the Indiana Hoosers and the Iowa Hawkeyes look, according to the ESPN FPI college football rankings? Well, they’re not doing too bad, folks.
Right now, the 5-3 Iowa Hawkeyes are holding on to the No. 26 spot in the FPI rankings following week nine. As for the Indiana Hoosiers, they’re sitting just outside the top 10 with the No. 11 spot, ahead of the Texas A&M Aggies and behind the Miami Hurricanes.
It’d be nice if Washington was in that sort of company at the moment. But that’s not the case this season. Let’s hope this season comes to a close on a high note and that next season is even just a little better. A lot better would be nice, but I’m willing to accept a little better.
