Washington Huskies QB Will Rogers in Big Ten’s top 5 for pass yards per attempt
By Ethan Lee
When Will Rogers arrived in Seattle, it was clear that he was going to have some pretty big shoes to fill. And Washington Huskies football fans are more than aware just how good Michael Penix Jr. was a season ago as he helped lead the Huskies to the national title game. So, Rogers stepped into a place where he was going to be held to a pretty high standard.
And all throughout the season, there have been Washington Huskies fans who have chimed in to say how much they miss Penix playing on Montlake. But, all things considered, Rogers is doing pretty well for the Huskies in a thankless spot.
Through eight games for Washington, Rogers has made it clear that he’s going to be different than Penix, but he’s still doing pretty well. He’s efficient and is doing a decent job of pushing the ball down the field, though his arm strength isn’t exactly something that just blows people away.
So far, the former Mississippi State Bulldog is among the Big Ten’s best when it comes to passing yards per attempt as he’s settled into a decent rhythm in Brennan Carroll’s offense. Right now, Rogers is averaging 8.5 passing yards per attempt.
That could be better, it could be worse, but it’s in the top five in the Big Ten so far.
Big Ten quarterback rankings, pass yards per attempt, entering week 10
- Kurtis Rourke (Indiana Hoosiers) - 10.7 yards per attempt
- Drew Allar (Penn State Nittany Lions) - 10.0 yards per attempt
- Will Howard (Ohio State Buckeyes) - 9.9 yards per attempt
- Dillon Gabriel (Oregon Ducks) - 9.4 yards per attempt
- Will Rogers (Washington) - 8.5 yards per attempt
Rogers has had a few rough games lately, but he also hasn’t exactly received the credit that he’s probably due. In a new system, with a bunch of new teammates who are also learning this offense, and in a brand new conference, Rogers has thrown for over 2000 yards and he’s not really made many mistakes. It’s hard to ask for too much more than that.
