When the Washington Huskies go to Minneapolis on Saturday, February 1 to face off against a similarly struggling team in a Big Ten contest, Danny Sprinkle’s UW men’s basketball team will need to find a way to account for Mike Mitchell Jr., who has been thriving at times for the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

While Mitchell hasn’t exactly consistently been the most productive player on Minnesota’s roster, Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies basketball team absolutely can’t afford to overlook someone who has shown he can score 20 points and dish out four assists to his teammates against the likes of the Michigan Wolverines in a thrilling upset win against one of the best teams in the Big Ten this season.

Oh, and it’s worth noting that Mitchell is the second leading scorer for the Golden Gophers this season. So, he’s absolutely someone that needs to be on Washington’s radar in this game. The Huskies can’t lose track of him.

Danny Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies need to keep an eye on Minnesota Golden Gophers star Mike Mitchell Jr.

It’s clear that Mitchell is a precise player. He has transformed Minnesota’s backcourt and plays a very efficient brand of basketball that could provide a headache for Spinkle and the Huskies if they aren’t careful. Washington can’t overlook a guy that is averaging 11.2 points per game and has 42 assists on the season while just committing 16 turnovers throughout the year.

Mitchell may not be the most productive shooter ever, but he’s making 36.5 percent of his shots from deep. And that’s good enough to keep teams honest and on him. The Huskies can’t afford to let him get hot from behind the three point line.

Along with all of that, Mitchell has 15 steals this season, showcasing a potential to have an impact on the defensive side of things as well. He’s a pretty solid, well rounded player that UW can’t afford to run wild on them.
