Washington RB Jonah Coleman in Big Ten’s top 10 in rushing yards entering week 14
By Ethan Lee
It’s no secret that the Washington Huskies have needed former Arizona Wildcats running back Jonah Coleman to play a significant role in their offense this season. Coleman, who followed Jedd Fisch and the former Arizona coaching staff from Tucson and the Pac-12 to Seattle and the Big Ten, has been a critically important part of UW’s offense all throughout the season.
And it’s shown in his production. He’s had a few ups and downs, but for the most part, the dynamic running back has done well to consistently be a bright spot in the drastically overhauled Washington Huskies offense.
It probably helps that he knows the system pretty well having played for Fisch and UW offensive coordinator Brennan Carrol previously, but the former Arizona Wildcat has thrived even against Big Ten defenses all while Washington has adjusted to all of the changes it’s experienced in less than a calendar year.
As the Huskies get set to take on the top-ranked Oregon Ducks in their regular season finale, Coleman has a chance to add to the over 1,000 rushing yards that he’s already gained this season. That could allow him to climb up in the Big Ten’s rushing yards rankings even more before this season is done.
Big Ten stats leaders, rushing yards: Where is Jonah Coleman ahead of Washington Huskies game vs. Oregon Ducks?
Here are the leading rushers in the Big Ten, according to rushing yards:
- Kaleb Johnson (Iowa Hawkeyes) - 1,492 yards
- Kyle Monangai (Rutgers Scarlet Knights) - 1,150 yards
- Woody Marks (USC Trojans) - 1,100 yards
- Jordan James (Oregon Ducks) - 1,067 yards
- Jonah Coleman (Washington Huskies) - 1,008 yards
- Kalel Mullings (Michigan Wolverines) - 832 yards
- Tawee Walker (Wisconsin Badgers) - 828 yards
- Quinshon Judkins (Ohio State Buckeyes) - 759 yards
- Justice Ellison (Indiana Hoosiers) - 748 yards
- Darius Taylor (Minnesota Golden Gophers) - 730 yards
- TreVeyon Henderson (Ohio State Buckeyes) - 730 yards
Big shocker seeing Kaleb Johnson from the Iowa Hawkeyes at the top, right?
Washington’s Coleman currently sits at No. 6 in the conference and he’ll have a (theoretical) chance to move up a bit this weekend. Coleman is behind Jordan James (of the Oregon Ducks) and it’d take a significant showing for UW’s running back to end up ahead of the Oregon running back. That said, it’s theoretically possible.
