‘Great challenge for us’: Washington Huskies DC Steve Belichick discusses impressive Indiana Hoosiers offense
By Ethan Lee
While the Washington Huskies are among the four new programs in the Big Ten, they’re not exactly the team that has taken the conference by storm this season. It’s honestly fair to say that none of the Big Ten teams located out West have managed to shock folks in the same way that the Indiana Hoosiers have this season.
In year one of the Curt Cignetti era, the Indiana Hoosiers have been thrilling to watch. And they’ve really punched above their weight class, taking down some pretty solid teams in truly impressive fashion.
Just ask Matt Rhule and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
And when it comes to what Indiana does well, well, they’re pretty good at everything. Especially on offense. So, as the Washington Huskies get set to take on the Indiana Hoosiers, they’re having to prepare to face off against one of the most electrifying offenses in the Big Ten this weekend.
During a recent team press conference, Washington Huskies defensive coordinator Steve Belichick was asked about how the Huskies match up with the Hoosiers and his thoughts on what Indiana is able to do offensively.

“They do a really good job with both, but yeah, these game plans, offensive game plans, you kind of never know how it’s going to go,” Belichick said.
And that’s fair. Indiana has found success through the air and on the ground. They’re scoring left and right. This is a team that is averaging 48.71 points per game, is running for over 200 yards per game, and averaging over 300 passing yards per game.
Indiana’s offense is legit.
“You can always predict it or think you know what it’s going to be, but you can’t make up your mind too early and overcommit to something and then get burned someplace else,” Washington’s defensive coordinator explained about preparing for Indiana’s game plan.
The Hoosiers are thriving offensively. They’ve scored 47 total touchdowns this season. It’s pretty safe to say that Belichick will have his hands full this weekend as the Washington Huskies try to slow the Hoosiers down.
“They do a really good job throwing the ball, running the ball, RPO plays. So, great challenge for us,” Belichick stated.
The Huskies will need to play disciplined football. Thankfully they had a much-needed bye week. We’ll see how much that helped UW get some rest and prep for this game.
