Danny Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies really made a splash in the transfer portal following his first season in Seattle. That first season really wasn’t all that impressive (from a purely playing perspective, the product stunk). That said, the Huskies really have some positive momentum now after overhauling a drastic portion of the roster through the transfer portal.
That’s not to say that Washington only had recruiting success in the transfer portal, but the Huskies did go out and grab one of the Big Ten’s best transfer portal recruiting classes during this cycle.
And that, my friends, is exciting. Washington really could put together a group of instant impact players in this way and that will afford the new, younger members of the Huskies some opportunities to grow and learn while still delivering some much needed success sooner rather than later.
Now, there’s no guarantee that that’s what will happen. However, Washington managed to get the Big Ten’s 4th best crop of transfer players in this transfer class. The Huskies are trailing just the Michigan Wolverines, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Indiana Hoosiers, according to the folks over at 247 Sports.
The Big Ten as a whole is really impressive when it comes to men’s basketball, but this place to rank happens to be some pretty good company for this team to be keeping right now.
Danny Sprinkle assembles Big Ten’s No. 4 best transfer class according to 247 Sports
The Huskies were able to get some pretty interesting players. All four are four stars, according to the 247 Sports ranking system. And the Huskies managed to find players to address depth issues at every spot across the court.
- Michigan: 4 commits (1 five-star, 3 four-star)
- Iowa: 8 commits (1 five-star, 4 four-star, 3 three-star)
- Indiana: 9 commits (0 five-star, 7 four-star)
- Washington: 5 commits (0 five-star, 5 four-star)
- USC: 7 commits (0 five-star, 5 four-star, 1 three-star)
- Maryland: 8 commits (0 five-star, 6 four-star, 2 three-star)
- UCLA: 4 commits (1 five-star, 1 four-star, 2 three-star)
- Minnesota: 7 commits (0 five-star, 3 four-star, 3 three-star)
- Wisconsin: 4 commits (0 five-star, 3 four-star)
- Ohio State: 3 commits (0 five-star, 2 four-star, 1 three-star)
- Nebraska: 6 commits (0 five-star, 1 four-star, 3 three-star)
- Michigan State: 2 commits (0 five-star, 2 four-star)
- Purdue: 2 commits (0 five-star, 1 four-star, 1 three-star)
- Oregon: 3 commits (0 five-star, 2 four-star)
- Northwestern: 3 commits (0 five-star, 0 four-star, 3 three-star)
- Rutgers: 2 commits (0 five-star, 1 four-star, 1 three-star)
- Illinois: 1 commit (0 five-star, 1 four-star)
- Penn State: 1 commit (0 five-star, 0 four-star, 1 three-star)
And of course, Washington only went out and grabbed five players in the transfer portal. The Huskies relied on it, but they didn’t have to do what Iowa and Indiana did, which was go out and get a combined 17 players through the transfer portal.
Instead, Washington also added four noteworthy freshmen in the recruiting class as well. So things are pretty balanced for Sprinkle as he tries to get this program established under his leadership. Here’s to hoping that this recruiting class goes a long way towards making that happen.
