Washington Huskies end 2024 regular season without a single win away from home
By Ethan Lee
Is there a way to schedule all of a team’s games to happen at home? Because the Washington Huskies should look into that. Or, well, maybe we can get a time machine and dial things back a few months and make it clear that the Huskies shouldn’t ever play a game outside of Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium again.
Not in this particular season, at least. Because, when playing away from the friendly confines on Montlake, the Huskies were completely and totally unable to get a win in the regular season. It’s weird, it’s bizarre, but Jedd Fisch was unable to get a road win this season.
And heck, that includes trying to get a neutral site win in the home of the Seattle Seahawks when facing off against the Washington State Cougars. I don’t understand it, but the Huskies simply couldn’t beat anyone unless they were playing at home.
Let’s go over all of those road losses, shall we?
Washington Huskies unable to get win outside of Husky Stadium in 2024
Washington’s first road game, that weird trip all the way to the other side of the continent to meet up with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights! That one! Yeah, that ended in a 21-18 loss for Fisch and the Huskies. Just a bad road trip for everyone involved.
Then there was the trip right into America’s Heartland, where Washington lost to the Iowa Hawkeyes by a score of 40-16. After that, a road trip to Indiana resulted in the Hoosiers getting a 31-17 victory over Washington.
It wasn’t that long ago that the Huskies took a flight to face off against Penn State in Happy Valley. And that one ended in a 35-6 beating that probably could have been even more lopsided if James Franklin had wanted it to be.
Saturday evening, in the last road trip of the season, the Huskies fell to the No. 1 Oregon Ducks by a score of 49-21. And now Oregon has 12 wins on the season and is headed to meet up with Penn State in the conference championship game.
One thing we can take away from this season? The Huskies got to hold on to their home winning streak. That’s something we can brag about. Thankfully, that wasn’t spoiled this season. And now on to a bowl game, where UW will try to win outside of Husky stadium for the first time this season.
