Well, that game was hectic and crazy and fun. And while the result was disappointing, the future of the Washington Huskies football team looks pretty bright despite that Sun Bowl comeback effort coming up just short in a 35-34 loss to Louisville.

Washington fans got to experience both the potential and a little bit of growing pains in the one-point loss to the Cardinals from the ACC.

Washington’s Demond Williams was magnificent for just about the entirety of the game and he delivered a remarkable performance as he regularly connected with senior receiver Giles Jackson for huge touchdown passes.

Williams completed 81 percent of his passes for 374 yards and four touchdowns (all of which landed with Jackson) while also running for another 48 yards and a score on the ground. Jackson managed to haul in 11 receptions for 161 yards (and all four of those aforementioned touchdowns).

Outside of his final touchdown reception, which was a 1-yard pass, all of Jackson’s touchdown catches were of at least 30 yards.

2024 Sun Bowl comeback falls short for Washington Huskies vs. Louisville Cardinals

Louisville advances to 9-4 on the season and looked really solid for much of the year (and in this game). There’s really no shame in losing to the Cardinals by one point given how they’ve played throughout this season.

The biggest different between Washington and Louisville is the fact that early in the game, UW’s Williams tossed a pick six. That’s it. Without that interception returned for a Louisville touchdown, we’re probably talking about a win.

But, that’s just the way things play out. It’s not like we can undo that score. Washington lost and falls to 6-7 on the season.

Still, all things considered, it’s really feeling like Washington is moving in the right direction. Fisch and company have a chance to build some excitement in the offseason with their young quarterback and a solid recruiting class. Next season could be a lot of fun.
