It’s about time. For the first time this season, nine games into the season, Eddie Smith and the Washington Huskies found a way to get a win in a true away game. It didn’t help that UW had to play four of their five road games against the Stanford Cardinal. But hey, that’s just how the early season slate has shaped up.

But the Huskies did it! They got a road win! Let’s celebrate a little bit, shall we?

The Huskies (now 3-6 on the season) managed to defeat San Francisco (5-4 overall) by a score of 6-2. And again, this was a road game for the Huskies as UW got the win at Benedetti Diamond. Washington managed to get the win in large part because the Huskies outhit San Francisco by a margin of 8-4.

Get more hits, score more runs, you tend to win. And that was the recipe for UW on Wednesday.

It’s also worth noting that the Huskies should credit a lot of their success in this midweek matchup to the way that Jackson Thomas thrived on the mound. In the six innings he pitched, Thomas absolutely earned the win by allowing just three hits and striking out seven opposing batters. He threw 95 pitches and only allowed two walks.

That’s good and worth enjoying.

Meanwhile, San Francisco had to use six different pitchers (while the Huskies only used three) and the Huskies bullpen was pretty solid in this game. Isaac Yeager threw a couple of scoreless innings and while Charle Denomme allowed a couple runs in the ninth inning, the Huskies still won.

At the plate, AJ Guerrero had a couple of doubles and put two runs on the board via two RBIs. Sam DeCarlo also did well as he had a double, an RBI and scored a couple runs. In total, the Huskies only struck out three times, which seems noteworthy.

UW won, the Huskies played well, and they even got some stuff that they can learn from and improve upon. Good situation all around for Smith and his UW baseball team.
