As the Washington Husky softball team rides a 14-game winning streak into Big Ten conference play, Alexis DeBoer’s phenomenal play has earned her some pretty noteworthy national attention. DeBoer, a freshman infielder for the UW softball team, was just recognized as the D1Softball National Player of the Week.
Which, you know, seems like a pretty big deal for a freshman infielder.
Throughout the 27 games DeBoer has played in so far in this young Washington Husky softball season, she’s managed to hit a dozen home runs and has 33 RBIs. That’s, you know, really, really good. Just phenomenal stuff.
DeBoer has a .372 batting average and a .910 slugging percentage. She’s also managed to start in every single game so far.
Washington Huskies softball star Alexis DeBoer recognized as D1Softball National Player of the Week after strong showing in Black and Orange Classic
This past weekend, in the Black and Orange Classic that Washington swept through, DeBoer managed to go 7-for-13 at the plate (which is good for a .538 batting average) while also hitting five home runs and eight RBIs.
Just for additional context, there were only five games that UW played in this stretch. So, again, that’s just incredible.
DeBoer is currently leading the Washington Huskies in home runs (12), RBIs (33), double (6), slugging percentage (.910) and she’s tied to lead UW with 11 walks. And again, DeBoer is just a freshman. She’s doing remarkable things at just the very beginning of her career.
All of this is happening as the Huskies get set to take on the Oregon Ducks (the No. 8 team in the country and currently the leader in the Big Ten in overall record) this weekend. Washington will almost certainly need for DeBoer to continue to play at the level she has been if they want to go toe to toe with Oregon this weekend. We’ll see if that happens.
