Well, it looks like the Washington Huskies have found themselves a solid starting quarterback for next season. Demond Williams is having a really solid showing against the Louisville Cardinals. In the first half, Williams was incredible and set the pace for the Huskies as he made explosive plays look routine and ordinary against Louisville’s defense.

The Huskies should be proud that their true freshman quarterback, in what is just the second start of his college football career, has managed to play a poised game against a team that challenged the likes of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Miami Hurricanes, SMU Mustangs, and beat the Clemson Tigers earlier this season.

Williams has been effective and efficient as he’s completed 8 of 11 passes for 162 yards and a couple touchdowns. On top of that, he’s been a solid runner, picking up 31 yards on the ground and scoring a rushing touchdown as well.

The true freshman quarterback has been responsible for all three of Washington’s scores and is a huge reason that UW is able to go toe to toe with the Cardinals right now.

This really is giving Washington fans a glimpse at what the future might look like. It’s not an exact look at what Williams will be like next season, but the Washington offense is going to more closely resemble this as it moves forward.

And that’ll be fun to watch.

Along that same line, this is a great opportunity for Fisch and his coaching staff to get even more familiar with their young quarterback (while also getting him valuable snaps, playing time, and in game experience) before heading into the offseason.

Washington can learn more about Williams as a player with this game, including his strengths and what weaknesses they might need to account for moving forward.
