Tyran Stokes, the No. 1 basketball recruit in the nation, has been playing high school basketball just a few minutes away from the University of Washington. Yet, his star power and his price point were so high that Danny Sprinkle and the Huskies were never really in the midst. There were some prefunctory check-ins and hopes and dreams, but nothing with real smoke.
Until now, according to basketball recruiting insider Adam Zagoria, Washington has been making a big push down the stretch, and there's actually a chance.

Tyran Stokes' decision may come down to five schools: Kentucky, Kansas, Gonzaga, Oregon, and Washington
There's been a little bit of a buzz around Washington pursuing Stokes the last month or so, but nothing as substantial as this. It could be because Sprinkle hasn't landed a recruit in this class, having a big one last year, and now he has the NIL money to spend on someone of Stokes' caliber.
Washington was working to go all-in on Dylan Mingo before Mingo switched gears to North Carolina, and really, Penn State was a backup plan. Stokes would be an even bigger option in terms of basketball talent.
There were some worries about Stokes in terms of personality and off-court stuff, but it seems as if his time in Rainier Beach has settled him in. He's been a rockstar in Seattle, and he's handling it with all the poise and grace you wouldn't expect from a high school senior.
Sprinkle isn't the only one making a final push to land the star recruit. Both Gonzaga and Oregon have come on strong as of late. Many experts thought the final race was going to come down to Kansas and Kentucky, and ultimately, that's where many assume he will still go. But as the recruitment drags on and Tyran Stokes listens to more suitors that have similar price points, Washington may end up having a real shot at bringing him in.
Tyran Stokes may wait until after the Nike Hoop Summit to commit
The other difficulty may be the timeline. While ESPN's Paul Biancardi thinks he will commit after the Nike Hoop Summit on April 11. There are others who say he may even see how some of the transfer portal madness shapes out. This could either help or hurt Washington's chances, depending on what the other four teams do in the portal.
It's a wild situation to think that Washington is back in the mix for the top player in the country that already has NBA talent, but that's where Danny Sprinkle and the Huskies find themselves.
