For the first time since the early 2000’s, the Washington Huskies are in El Paso for the Sun Bowl. It’s been quite some time since the Huskies have been in that part of Texas and it looks like the folks for the 2024 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl are excited to have UW in town.
Part of the fun of bowl games is the way that teams and fanbases from across the country get to experience a new city and the culture that can be found there. El Paso and the Sun Bowl (which happens to be the second oldest bowl game around) are a great example of sharing local culture with the participating teams.
That’s more than evident in how the Sun Bowl celebrated Jedd Fisch and Washington (as well as Jeff Brohm and the Louisville Cardinals.
Here’s how the Huskies were welcomed to town.

To be completely honest, it looks like the Huskies had fun with the travel portion of getting to El Paso. We’ve got a few cowboy hats and a bunch of team attire.
And once there, the Huskies got to have some fun with the bowl folks. Like this cool team welcome dinner and gifts.
I mean, we’ve got Jedd Fisch dancing in a purple sombrero. The Sun Bowl rocks. (El Paso is also a great town, by the way).
All around, it just seems like the Sun Bowl is doing a great job of celebrating the Huskies and Cardinals.
The pageantry, history, and culture surrounding the Sun Bowl are great to see. I’m a huge fan. And here’s to hoping that we get to see a great, enjoyable game between the Huskies and Cardinals. Washington and Louisville will face off on Tuesday, December 31 at 11 a.m. PT.
