Less than two weeks after leading her Huskies to the second round of the 2026 Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament, head coach Tina Langley has agreed with the University of Washington on a six-year, $7.1 million contract extension.

The agreement, which was reported by The Seattle Times' Percy Allen and officially announced via a press release, keeps Langley with the Huskies through the 2031-32 season. She’ll earn $1,187,500 dollars across each of the next six seasons.

“I’m so grateful to President [Robert] Jones, [athletic director] Pat [Chun], [deputy athletic director] Erin [O’Connell], and our entire administrative team for the opportunity to continue being a part of the amazing community here at Washington,” Langley said in the release. “Their wholehearted commitment and support of our student-athletes and entire program is deeply felt. It is an honor and a blessing to serve alongside such a high-character group of young women and outstanding coaching staff. Washington is a special place, and we are so excited for what’s to come.”

Athletic director Pat Chun made the right choice in extending Tina Langley

After being hired in 2021, Langley quickly turned around a program which had languished for four consecutive losing seasons under former head coach Jody Wynn. Five years later, Langley has led the Huskies to four consecutive winning seasons, back-to-back appearances in the March Madness tournament, and an overall record of 83-71.

Despite her success, Langley’s buyout this offseason was just $175,000, which put her at major risk of being poached by other programs. Rumors swirled recently that she was being targeted by Alabama for their head coaching job.

The Crimson Tide chose to hire alum Pauline Love yesterday, but it’s possible that decision only came after early whispers of the Langley extension reached Tuscaloosa. Thankfully, the extension Chun and Langley have agreed upon will likely keep any suitors at bay for years to come.

"Over the past five seasons, we have witnessed the continued ascent of Washington women's basketball under the leadership of Coach Langley," Chun said. "She has distinguished herself as both an exceptional coach and an outstanding leader. We are fortunate to have her leading our program and look forward to building on the strong foundation she has established."
