Coming off a couple recent frustrating losses on the road against the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Indiana Hoosiers, Jedd Fisch and the Washington Huskies are heading into the weekend and preparing for a pretty familiar foe.

This weekend, the Washington Huskies (4-4 overall, 2-3 Big Ten) will be welcoming the USC Trojans (4-4, 2-4 Big Ten) in Husky Stadium. While both of these teams are struggling a bit this season as they try to adjust to life in the Big Ten (and the awfully insane amount of travel that comes with existing in this new conference home), we can look back fondly on last season’s stellar win over the Trojans.

So, for this week’s edition of Throwback Thursday, let’s go over how Michael Penix Jr. and the Huskies managed to upend USC last season in a thrilling, high scoring affair.

Throwback Thursday: Washington Huskies looked solid vs. Caleb Williams and the USC Trojans in 2023

Last Novemeber at the LA Coliseum featured two of the best quarterbacks in college football right along with two of the best offenses in college football. All sorts of offensive firepower was on display in the 10-point win for UW and the Huskies managed to rack up 572 total yards of offense in the victory over USC.

Interestingly enough, the vast majority of those 572 yards can be divided pretty much evenly between two star athletes for the Huskies.

A total of 256 yards came on the ground from Dillon Johnson, who also scored four touchdowns for Washington. Meanwhile, Michael Penix Jr. threw for 256 yards of his own and tossed a couple of touchdown passes.

On the other side of things, Caleb Williams put up 312 yards through the air as he threw for 312 yards, which is also really impressive, folks. In total, these two teams racked up over 1000 yards of offense. These two offenses were truly special.

Now, this season, we’ve got two teams that are trying to figure out their identity and how they fit into the Big Ten. Both need this win to get closer to bowl eligibility. Both of these teams are trying to get their season turned around.
