The Danny Sprinkle era of Washington Huskies basketball is officially underway and it seems like the new head coach on Montlake is pretty pleased with the way UW looked in a recent exhibition game. While Washington wasn’t perfect, the Huskies were able to get a dominant win.

As Sprinkle noted in his postgame press conference, the game was definitely a lopsided affair.

“I guess, you know, the game, it got a little bit out of hand but I was proud of the way our guys played,” Sprinkle said.

For those that aren’t aware, Washington won this one by a score of 105 to 68. That’s a pretty notable way to win. And yeah, it’s certainly fair to say that this is a game that became one-sided in a hurry. Western Oregon just didn’t have the firepower to keep up.

And a lot of that has to do with the way the Huskies approached this game. For the first time they played together, it seems like they did a decent job. Sprinkle seems to agree with that assessment.

“I thought they played the right way, they played unselfishly, they shared the basketball," Sprinkle noted.

And there was a fair bit of ball movement for Washington. The Huskies totaled 17 assists in this game. That number could be a bit better, but Washington is still figuring a few things out, so that’s not a bad number to have.

“One thing, sometimes in these games, it can get ugly and guys get a little selfish, but I thought our guys did a really good job sharing the ball,” Sprinkle said.

The head coach of the Huskies would go on to note how DJ Davis, Great Osobor, Franck Kepnang, Zoom Diallo, Tyler Harris, Wilhelm Breidenbach, and Christian King all ended up scoring in the double digits of this game.

That’s a pretty effective way to get a win, you know? Move the ball around, score a bunch as a collective unit, avoid turnovers and mistakes, and get a solid 100 points on the scoreboard.

“One of the things that we harp on a lot is having less than 10 turnovers and you know we only had nine tonight, which is good,” Sprinkle said.

The Huskies will soon get their season started. Washington certainly has room to grow, but this is a great first step for a team that is looking to compete at a high level in the Big Ten with a brand new head coach on Montlake.
